A'opo, Savai'i

A'opo is located inland from the northern coast of Savai'i, the largest of the Samoan islands. A'opo is close to the 1760's lava field. Savai'i, home to approximately 40,000 people, is an active volcano which last erupted in 1911.

Petelo Ah Sue and his extended family have been growing coffee beans in their village A'opo, Savai'i.

They had extensive plantings of Robusta which are being replaced with Arabica in a program, which started in July, 2009.

These new plantings are being used as a model for other farmers to show case intercroping with existing crops such as taro.
